Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Jacob Lusby was a Maryland colonist.

Origin

No record of the birth of Jacob Lusby has been found. He was likely born in England around 1654. He was transported to Maryland by 1662 by his father, Robert Lusby along with his mother Dorothy and three sisters, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Sarah. [1] On 11 MAR 1699 Jacob Harness conveyed to Jacob Lusby a 100 acre tract called Little Harness located on the north side of South River for £60.[2]

Marriage & Children

Published genealogies have stated he married a woman named married Mary Draper but no proof of this marriage has been found. It seems more likely that he married the sister of Robert Davidge since he was left a carbine in the will. [3] His will names three sons and three daughters in this order:

John b. abt. 1685
Robert b. abt. 1687
Thomas b. abt. 1697
Hannah m. to -?- Johnson b. abt. 1692
Mary b. abt. 1690
Ruth b. abt. 1695

Property

Jacob inherited land from his father on the north side of Severn River and sold this tract in 1678 for 3,000 pounds of tobacco. His wife Mary approved the sale. [4]
