Louise (Lussier) Lucier was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Metis Nation.

Biography

She married Toussaint after his first wife Eliza Chalifoux died, It was her first marriage. birth is confirmed by 1870 Manitoba Census [8] Record states that he was widower of Louise Chalifoux and Louise Lucier was the daughter of Toussaint Lucier and Louise Brazeau. The date was 3 Feb 1873 at St Francois Xavier, White Horse Plain.

They had 6 children together, 4 of which lived to adulthood. Toussaint (1874-1908); Henri Burd (1876-1931); Baby (1877-1877); Josue Joseph (1878-1954); Virginie (1879-1886) and Marie Eliza (1881-1882). [1]

On 16 September, 1875 she applies for Scrip for herself [2]

Mederic died on 30 Mar 1881 and was buried at St Francois Xavier, White Horse Plain the next day [9].

It is believed, that on 20 Dec 1882, at Duck Lake, North West Territory (Saskatchewan), she married Philip Bird Philip Bird, son of Jemmy "James" Bird and Sarah "Bulls Heart". Philip was widower to Mary Kipling (1848-1882). Have not found a source for this event as yet.

On 10 July 1886, a scrip affidavit #2377 was noted as being from Mederic Deguire for his deceased child Caroline Deguire. Presumably this note refers to an earlier application he made before he died. [3].

On 19 July 1886, she submits a declaration requesting that she and her now husband Philip Burd are granted a patent to be issued as step-daughter Caroline Deguire's legal representatives. [4]. Caroline was the daughter of Mederic and his first wife Eliza Chalifoux, she lived less than one year.

In 1891, we find Louise and Philip living in Carlton, Northwest Territories (Saskatchewan) their own children Sarah, 6; Edward, 4 and Frederick Charles, 2; and infant Ross, 3 months (the last child is their daughter Marie Victorine Rose). [10] they are line 8 to 13 - his widowed mother and her children are on line 14 to 17.

On 15, Jun 1900 at Fort Carlton, she applies for Scrip on behalf of her deceased daughter Marie Eliza Deguire's children. [5]

They are still in Carlton in 1901, and have expanded their family by 2, Julius, 6 and Louisa, 3. [6].

in 1914, She is found in the 1930 US Federal Census at the home of her son Edward Charles in Boundary, Idaho Ancestry uk Record 6224 #10075237. She reports she is a widow in this census. His date of death is believed to be about 1925.
