Biography
"HON. BENJAMIN LYNDE CHILE JUSTICE OE MASSACHUSETTS. It appears from the registry in the Church of St. John, the parish church of Hackney, near London, that Enoch Lynde was married on the 25th of October, 1614. to Elizabeth Digbie, a descendant of Sir John Digby.

Enoch Lynde resided in London, was a merchant engaged in foreign trade, and was for some years connected with the postal service between England and Holland.

Enoch Lynde's birth 1586 estimated from his age 50 at death as noted in The Loyalists of MA p 462 James H Stark 973.3 S795; his marriage, October 25, 1614 when his bride was thirty years old. He married, "at the Church of St. John, the parish-church of Hackney near London," (as noted The Loyalists of Massachusetts p 462)
This brief bio contained in this publication then profiles his third son Simon b 1624 London, in turn Simon's sixth son Benjamin born Sep 1666, and then Benjamin Jr born 1700 who eventually became a Loyalist during the American Revolution.

Enoch LYNDE and Elizabeth DIGBY Enoch was born about 1590 possibably in the Netherlands and married 25 October 1614 in Church of St. John, London, Middlesex England Elizabeth, DIGBY the daughter of Evard DIGBY and Katherine Stockbridge de NEWKIRK. She was born in England and died. Enoch died.
"Ancestral Roots of Sixty Colonists, etc" by Frederick Lewis Weiss 6th ed., pg.97 Name: Enoch Lynde Sex: M Birth: 1590 in Netherlands Death: 23 APR 1636 in Note: He was a shipping merchant in the Netherlands. A Capt. "Lyrado (perhaps a misreading of Lynde) left to Matthew Beckwith a legacy of mentionable value, it is therefore possible that the legatee was the testator's son-in-law. The earliest Lynde's were from Boston and later of Saybrook. Frederick Weiss has Enoch Lynde as dying in England, however the family was already in America in 1637 (the date of Elizabeth's marriage to Matthew Beckwith). Perhaps Elizabeth came to America with her brother Judge Simon Lynde, whose family was in Saybrook by the mid 1600's.
