Biography

1776 Project
Private Israel Lynn served with Rowan County Regiment, North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

Israel Lynn was named as a son of William Lynn of Rowan County in William's will dated 9 December 1784. He was bequeathed his father's blacksmith tools.[1] On 5 October 1784, he was married to Mary Smith in Rowan County.[2] He is found in the 1790 census as "Isarel Lynn" in Rowan County with one female and one male under the age of 16.[3]

The family is not found in the 1800 census, but in 1810 they were living in Salisbury, Rowan County. Israel was enumerated that year as "Isral Lyn" age 45 or above with 2 females age 26-44, 1 male 16-25, 2 females 16-25, 1 males 0-9, and 2 female 0-9.[4] The second 26-44-year-old female could be a sister of Israel.

Sometime between 1810 and 1820, Israel left North Carolina for Barren County, Kentucky, where he appears in the 1820 and 1830 census. In 1820, he was enumerated as "Israel Linn" age 45 or above and had in his household one female also 45 or above and two females age 16-25.[5] In 1830, he was listed again as "Israel Lynn" but age 60-69 with a female also 60-69.[6]

Beginning September 1831, Private Israel Lynn received payments as a Revolutionary War pensioner living in Kentucky. The record of payment is noted "Died 4th June 1833".[7]
