Biography

Mary (Lyon) Engle was born in Lancashire, England.

Mary was employed as a Laundrymaid.

Mary Elizabeth Lyon (1887-1943) or "Lil" as she would become known, was born in Northumberland Buildings, Toxteth Park on the 17th October 1887. ^[1] She was the daughter of Joseph Lyon and Elizabeth Doyle ^[2] and she was christened on the 19th October 1887 at St Patrick's church in Toxteth Park. ^[3]

The family moved within Toxteth Park and in 1891 lived on Micawber Street ^[4] and were on Twiss Street by 1901. ^[5]

She was employed as a laundrymaid in 1911 when the family lived in Menzies Street ^[6] but gave an address on Kinmel Street when she married George Engle at St Silas' church in Toxteth Park on the 9th March 1915. ^{[7] [8] [9]}

They lived in initially on Fernhill Street, Toxteth Park (although recorded as "Ingle" in the electoral registers) ^[10] and stayed there until the mid 1930s, ^[11] before moving to Ashfield Road, Aigburth before 1935. ^[12] They did not have any children and they still lived there during WW2 ^[1] but Lil died there on the 11th August 1943. ^{[13] [14]}

She was cremated at Anfield on the 14th August
