Biography

  • Irvine Endean MacDavid was born on January 4th 1904 in Buffalo, Erie, New York [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] to Charles Wallace MacDavid and Clara A. Schweigert MacDavid. Charles was a Scottish immigrant and Clara was born in Germany. Charles and Clara had two children, both boys, Wallace (1902) and Irvine (1904).
  • In 1904 Irvine's father, Charles, becomes a naturalized citizen in Buffalo, Erie, New York as reported in the 1925 New York, State Census [7] [8]
  • In the 1910 United States Federal Census [9] [10] we find Charles (31), Clara (30), Wallace (8) and Irvine 6 living on Fougeron Street in Buffalo, Erie, New York where Charles is a house carpenter and Clara is at home.
  • In the 1915 New York, State Census [11] [12] we find Charles (35), Clara (34), Wallace (13) and Irvine living in Buffalo, Erie, New York, where Charles is shown working as a cabinet maker and Clara is a housewife with both boys in school.
  • The 1920 United States Federal Census [13] [14] [15] [16] shows Charles (41), Clara (40), Wallace (18) and Irvine (16) living at Buffalo and Depew Boulevard in Cheektowaga, Erie, New York. Charles is a carpenter, Clara a housewife, Wallace a bookkeeper for the Philadelphia & Reading railroad and Irvine was a clerk for the New York City Reading Railroad. Irvine is indicated as not being in school.
  • In the 1925 New York, State Census we find Charles (46), Clara (45) and Irvine (21) living on Depew Boulevard in Cheektowaga, Erie, New York where Charles works as a carpenter, Clara is a housewife and Irvine is an accountant [17] [18].
  • The "New York State, Marriage Index" [19] shows Irvine marrying Elinor G. Suckow on August 25th 1926 in a ceremony conducted by the Rev. Fr. Ott in the Sacred Heart Rectory in Bowmansville, Erie, New York. Three children were born to this marriage, two boys and a girl, Jean (1929), Donald (1930) and Kenneth (1933).
  • Irvine's father, Charles, died young on December 8th 1927 in Depew, Erie, New York [20].

  • Irvine and Elinor's second child, a son, Donald, was born on November 1st 1930 in Buffalo, Erie, New York [24]
  • Irvine and Elinor's third child, a son, Kenneth, was born on November 20th 1933 in Buffalo, Erie, New York [25]
  • For 1935, Irvine, Elinor, Jean, Donald and Kenneth were living in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York per lines 17-19 information in the 1940 United States Federal Census [26] [27].
  • In the 1940 Albany, Albany, New York City Directory [28] Irvine E. Macdavid is shown working as a clerk for SVO, and living at 1627 Central Avenue with Elinor G. Macdavid.
  • In the 1940 United States Federal Census [29] [30] we see Irvine (36), Elinor (35), Jean (11), Donald (9), and Kenneth (6) living in a rented residence at 1627 Central Avenue in Colonie, Albany, New York where Irvine works as an accountant for a wholesale oil company and Elinor is a housewife.
  • Irvine completed his World War II Draft Registration Card (D. S. S. Form 1) on February 15th 1942 at the Town Hall, Town of Colonie, Newtonville, Albany, New York [31]. He gave his full name as Irvine Endean Mac David, born January 5th 1904 in Buffalo, New York. His wife is Mrs. Elinor G. Mac David and his address is 26 Locust Park, Albany Schenectady Road stop 29, Albany, New York and is telephone number is 2-8707. He was employed by the Sozany Vacuum Oil Company on Church Street in Albany, New York. Irvine's physical description was shown as white, 5' 8.5" tall, 150 pounds, brown eyes, brown hair, dark complexion and a scar on his right thumb.
  • In the 1950 United States Federal Census [32] [33] we see Irvine (46), Elinor (45), Jean (21), Donald (18), and Kenneth (16) living at 18 Main Street in Lancaster, Erie, New York where Irvine is an oil company supervisor. No occupation is shown for Elinor or the children. Although Donald's entries are complete on the actual census document, he was subsequently Xed out with no explanation. On the supplemental questions he was selected to answer, Irvine indicated that his 1949 and 1950 residences are the same, that he completed grade 9, he is the only wage earner in the household and he is not a U. S. Armed Forces veteran.
  • Irvine's brother, Wallace, died on February 14th 1956 in Buffalo, Erie, New York [34].
  • Irvine's mother, Clara, died in Jan 1972 (her headstone shows (1879-1972) [35]
  • Irvine's April 2nd 1979 obituary said that he was a member of the Bowmansville Benevolent Fire Association and was retired from the Mobile Oil Company [36].
  • Irvine died on April 1st 1979 probably in Bowmansville, Erie, New York. The U.S. Social Security Administration shows his last address in Bowmansville, Erie, New York [37] [38] [39] [40] [41]. The family received friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, April 3rd 1979 at the Gilbert W. Danzer Funeral Home, 5363 Genesee St., Bowmansville. The funeral was held on Wednesday, Aprill 4th 1979 [42].
  • Irvine was laid to rest in the Transit Rural Cemetery in Bowmansville, Erie, New York where Elinor would join him in 1993 [43] [44] [45] [46] [47]
