Biography

Donald was born before 1700. He was the son of Ranald MacDonald. Donald, a Colonel in Clanranald's Regiment, was taken captive in 1745 and on September 24. 1746 he was found guilty of high treason. Donald was executed October 18, 1746 and his head was put on public display, hanging over a gate, as a warning to others.

(Surprisingly, another Jacobite officer named Donald Macdonald (of Tyendrish or Terndriech) was also executed at Carlisle on the same day. It is necessary to be careful not to confuse them. See: MacDonald-15683)
