When his mother left for the U.S., John A. stayed with Jessie's sister, Ellen, in Antigonish. He was cooperative and easy to care for.

John A. married in Sydney and had a family. He was a teacher for awhile and then took an office job at a mine. A blood clot developed in his leg, necessitating amputation.
