John was born on 11/8/1883 in Bearsden and left in 1899 for South Africa, after completing his schooling. His sister Jane married Methven-Gordon, had three children in South Africa, but died, tragically, giving birth to her third. The three children, Neil, Esme and Ian, were brought up by John and his sister Isabella. John, after seeing to the full education of Jane's children married Annie Gwladys Morgan on 19/2/1920 in Mowbray in Cape Town. They had three sons Robert, John and Selwyn.
John MacFarlane was born in Scotland around 1888 he said at a place called Daresden(spelling unknown). He moved to Cape Town on the ship the Carnarvon Castle. He was a scout in the Anglo boer war 1899 to 1902 I think he was a Boer sympathiser. Married Annie Gwladys Morgan around 1920. He died in Johannesburg around 1960 left three sons Robert MacFarlane born 16/8/1923 John Morgan Mac Farlane 8/8/1927 and Selwyn MacFarlane 18/7/1935. His wife was welsh born in Cardif Wales in 19/10/1896
