Biography

Marion L Mace was born about Mar 1870 in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Thomas B Mace and Margaret Culbert. Her older siblings were:

  1. Thomas Mace
  2. Moses Culbert Mace
  3. Franklin S Mace

A sister, Jennie/Jane Mace, died before Marion was born.

On 21 Jul 1870, Mirian Mace (4m) lived in Village Green, Chester Township, Delaware County with her father Thomas (38), mother Margaret (32), and older siblings Thomas (8), Hannah (6), Culbert (4), Frank (2). They were white and born in Pennsylvania. Thomas worked as a butcher, his real estate was valued at $4500, his personal estate was valued at $500. Margaret was keeping house, her father was born outside the United States. The children were at home; Thomas and Hannah attended school. [1]

On 18 Sep 1871, her sister Nellie G Mace was born in Pennsylvania. [2]

On 9 Nov 1873, her sister Ada L Mace was born in Pennsylvania. [3]

1876, her brother Henry Mace was born in Pennsylvania.

1880s

On 10 Jun 1880, Marion Mace (10) lived in Chester Township with her father Thomas (48), mother Margaret (43), older siblings brother Thomas (18), sister Hannah (17), brother Culbert (14), brother Franklin (12), younger siblings sister Nellie G (8), sister Ada (6), brother Henry (4), and grandmother Sidney (73). They were white and born in Pennsylvania. Thomas was married, worked as a farmer Margaret was married, was keeping house Thomas Jr was single, worked as a farm laborer Hannah was single, at home Culbert was single, a student Franklin, Marian, Nellie, and Ada were single and attended school. 1890s

1894, her mother Margaret C Mace (~56) died. [7]

On 12 Aug 1895, her sister Ella Mace (23) married William Forister Fritz (30) in Delaware County. [8] [9]

On 13 Jun 1889, her sister Hannah C Mace (25) married G M Owen (28) in Media, Delaware County. G resided in Pughhoun, Chester County, worked as a minister of the gospel, was white, and the son of Rev W and Rebecca Owen. Hannah resided in Chester Township, worked as a school teacher, was white, and the daughter of Thomas E and Margaret Mace. They applied for their marriage license on May 23rd. [10] [11]

1899, her father Thomas B Mace (~67) died. He was buried at Middletown Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Elwyn, Delaware County. [12]

1910s

On 4 Jul 1912, her sister Ada Mace married Clarence R Tolman in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Clarence was a businessman, resided in Wallingford Ada was a teacher, resided in Wallingford They were married at the home of Ada's sister and brother-in-law Rev George M Owen. [13]

On 18 Sep 1916, Marion Mace married Edward Cross in Delaware County. [14]

Nov 1917, her sister Nellie Fritz (46) married David A Bolton (~45) and became stepmother to his children: Margaret, George, Helen, Marie, and Francis Bolton. [15]

Nov 1919, her sister Hannah Owen (~56) died.

HANNAH CULBERT OWEN. Hannah Culbert Owen, wife of Rev. George W. Owen, died suddenly at 1 A.M. on November 17. She was a woman loved by those who knew her, always ready to do a kind act for everyone. Mrs. Owen was formerly of Brookhaven, where she was born and lived until she married Rev. George M. Owen. She was graduated from Gilberts' Academy of Chester, and taught several years in the county.She leaves three sisters and two brothers, Thomas, of Atlantic City and Cull, of Portland, Oregon; and Mrs. E. Cross, Mrs. C. Tolman and Mrs. David Bolton, of Marcus Hook.[16]

1920s

On 21 Jan 1920, Marion L Cross (50) lived at 1410 Morton Avenue in Chester City with her husband Edward M (53), niece Florence T Fritz (30), and a boarder Mr Emil J Frenz (19). They were white, rented their home, did not attend school, were able to read and write, and were born in Pennsylvania. Edward was married, his parents were born in Rhode Island, and he worked as a sewer laborer. Marion was married. Floence was single and worked as a stenographer for a law office. Emil was single and worked as a house carpeule appser (?). [17]

About 1920, Marion Cross and her husband adopted Pearl M Baldwin (~8y). Pearl's name was changed to Barbara Fritchie Cross. [18]

On 9 Oct 1928, her adoptive daughter Barbara F Cross married Arthur R Greenman in Delaware County. [19]

On 27 Dec 1928, Marion Cross died in Marcus Hook.

Mrs. Marion Cross, of Sixth street, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. David Bolton, of Marcus Hook, yesterday following an illness of several weeks. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mace, of Brookhaven. She is survived by her husband, Edward Cross; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Grennan, of Upland, two sisters, Mrs. David Bolton, of Marcus Hook, and Mrs. Clarence Tolman, of Wallingford; and a brother, M. Culbert Mace, or Portland, Ore. The funeral will be held from her sister's home, 1127 Green street, Marcus Hook, on Monday, December 31, at 3 o'clock.
