Biography

Fought in the American Revolution. His headstone says Captain but I am wondering if there is proof of this?

Capt Benjamin Mackall filed for a military pension on 28 Feb 1819 at the age of 56. It stated he had enlisted for three years on 1st of April 1782 at Fredericktown, MD in Capt David Linn's Company with the rank of private. In Oct of 1783 he was detailed in the Corps of the MD line under the command of Joseph Marbury and marched to Pittsburgh, PA remaining in the service in the garrison at Pittsburgh until the army was generally disbanded and was there discharged at Pittsburgh, PA July 17,1784. He received a pension of ninety-six dollars per year.

Benjamin Mackall in Jan 1821 moved to Brooke Co. Virginia having his pension transferred. In Sept. 1826 he returned to the state of PA as recorded in his pension records.

Rebecca Dawson Mackall, his widow, filed for a pension 15 April,1838, giving the dates of marriage,births,and deaths. May 16, 1840 she was granted a pension of 48 dollars per year. Jan 16,1844 a certificate of pension #6-604 was issued under Act of 3 March 1843 in the amount of $57.00 paid at Pittsburgh Record in Bk A, vol 2 pg 112.

Inscription in headstones (there are two) Age 66y 4m 21d Almighty Lord Before Thy Throne Thy Mourning Peopld Bend! Tis on Thy Pard'nng Grace Alone Our Prostrate Hopes Depend. Newer stone reads: Virginia Pvt. Capt David Lynn Co 3rd Md Regt Rev War
