Biography

John Magee is believed to be a son of Patrick McGee, in Irish immigrant who made his home in Spring Run, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. John moved to Butler County, where he died on 26 February 1843. He was laid to rest at Wolf Creek U.P. Cemetery in Slippery Rock, Butler County.[1]

It is likely that the surname was originally McGee. However, gravestones for four of Patrick's sons are inscribed "Magee", and that is the spelling found in a number of passed-down genealogies.

Research Notes

Many GEDCOM entries appear to show children of Patrick moving to Kentucky and beyond, as did many of the rugged Scotch-Irish pioneers. This is unlikely since Patrick and four sons all are buried in Pennsylvania. See https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/142788294/patrick-magee.
