The sixth son of John Mainey (abt.1845-1896) and his wife Frances Clara (Killmore) Mainey (abt.1860-1922), Lawrence was born in 1885 at Turner's Flat near Kempsey, where his grandmother and several uncles lived, as well as his own family.[1]
He is said to have married Eliza Jane Dix in 1919, in Cheltenham, Sydney.[2]
1909 - Kempsey Police Court. Friday, May 28th — Before Messrs. W. T. Dangar and G. E. Thompson, Js.P. - William Bull was charged at the instance of Lawrence Mainey with. assault. The injuries received by Mainey necessitated surgical treatment. Accused was fined £2 for the assault, with £3 3s medical expenses, £1 15s for loss of wages, £2 for board, £1 Is professional costs, £1 9s witnesses expenses, and 6s costs of court; in all £12 1s, or four months’ hard labor in Darlinghurst. Mr. Hardiman appeared for the complainant.[3]
1929 - POLICE COURT. At the Kempsey Police Court on Wednesday, before Mr. F. Potts, 3P.M., Lawrence Mainey found drunk in Belgrave-street, pleaded guilty and was fined 5 shillings.[1]
Electoral Rolls, New South Wales, Cowper, Kempsey - 1930 - Eliza Jane (home duties) and Lawrence (labourer) MAINEY were residents of Elbow Street, West Kempsey.
1937 - A TENANCY MATTER. Alfred H. Mobbs proceeded against Laurie Mainey in a tenancy matter. Mr. A. G. Brindley appeared for defendant, and pointed out that the notice to quit did not conform to the terms of the tenancy— week to week (Thursday). The Magistrate held that the week’s notice covered the matter. Mr. Brindley said the defendant was a war pensioner with a wife and eight children, and the rent had been paid up regularly. Another place could not be found. The premises were a de-licensed hotel. Plaintiff said he wanted the place, which was only rented temporarily. They refused to move until the roof was pulled down. They could not get a house because they would not pay the rent. The Magistrate ordered a warrant for possession to issue between 10th and 17th September.[4]
Lawrence died in Sydney in 1939.[5]
