Family information has brothers Toivo, Edvard, and Kaarlo (Charley) immigrating from Finland around 1910. Charley and Toivo farmed in the Rock area of MIchigan; Ed owned a tavern nearby in Trenary.
Another brother, Kalle "Charles Henry" Maki lived in the Marquette area. A sister, Martta Raittila lived in Ontario, then Keewatin Minnesota.
Edvard was born in Finland in 3 December 1889. He emmigrated to the United States as a young man and lived in Michigan.
The ship's manifest of July 1910 listed his name as Risto Puolomaki. He was 21 (?) and was from Iklainenen, Finland. His father's name was listed as Kalle Puloanmkai. His destination was Marquette, Michigan. The ship arrived at Boston Massachusetts. [1]
Edward's first wife, Eustey, divorced him in March 1930. There was one child, aged 7. [2]
Edward Maki married Mrs. Ellen Mayllya on the 10th of November 1930 in Alger, MIchigan. He lists his parents as Charles Maki and mother's madien name not known. [3]
In 1940, Edward (40) and Ellen Maki (33) are living in Trenary, Alger County, Michigan, where Edward is a tavern keeper, working 98 hours per week. They have a daughter, Anna May Maki, aged 6, born in Michigan. Both Edward and Ellen report an eighth grade education. Edward is not a citizen of the US.[4]
By 1950, Edward is no longer running a tavern but owning and operating an "apartment and rooming house", now only working 60 hours per week. He is now a naturalized citizen; his wife and 16 year-old daughter make up the rest of the household -- along with 17 lodgers. Thirteen separate apartments with single renters are located next door ---maybe the apartments belonging to Edward?[5]

Edward R. Maki, birth date 3 December 1889 died on 26 April 1973 at the age of 83 in Pasco, Florida. He was living at 210 S Van Buren, New Port Richey, Florida at the time of his death.[7]
