Cooper was born in 1867 to Samuel E. Mangum (1839–1912) and Nancy Jane (Tullos) Mangum (1846–1928). He is listed in his parent's household on both: the 1870 Census[1] and the 1880 Census in his hometown of Simpson, Mississippi.[2]
He was the husband of Martha L. (Day) Mangum (1869–1935) and the couple had at least nine children:
Cooper W. Mangum of Magee died in a Jackson convalescent home early Tuesday morning after a long Illness. He was 92 years old. A life long resident of Simpson County, he was a charter member of Magee Baptist Church. For years he served as district manager of Columbia Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a. m. from Mims Mitchell Chapel with Revs. E. F. Hicks, W. A. Hall, and G. O. Parker, Sr., officiating. Interment was in Magee cemetery.
Survivors Include five sons, Charlie, W. C, Zeno, all of Magee, A. A. of Shreveport, and Frank of Georgetown; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Bowen, Prattsville, Ala.; and Mrs. Gola Weeks, Vicksburg; 4 grandchildren; a brother, Colon Mangum, Magee.
