Biography

James was born in 1869 at Lower Penquite in the parish of Saint Breward, Cornwall and was baptised November 5th in the same parish.^[1]He was the son of Edward Manicom and Mary Geake.^[2]

Orphaned by 1877, he and his siblings William and Elizabeth were raised by their maternal grandmother, Mary Geake and maternal aunt, Jane Geake, in Churchtown, Saint Breward.^[3]

Taking after his paternal grandfather, James was a tailor.
