James was born in 1869 at Lower Penquite in the parish of Saint Breward, Cornwall and was baptised November 5th in the same parish.[1]He was the son of Edward Manicom and Mary Geake.[2]
Orphaned by 1877, he and his siblings William and Elizabeth were raised by their maternal grandmother, Mary Geake and maternal aunt, Jane Geake, in Churchtown, Saint Breward.[3]
Taking after his paternal grandfather, James was a tailor.

James died March 20, 1893 in Churchtown in the parish of Saint Breward. Cause of death was Phthisis and Exhaustion and present at his death was the informant, his maternal aunt, Jane Geake. Date of registration was March 25, 1893.[4]
He was buried March 23, 1893 in Saint Breward, Cornwall.[5]
