familysearch.org does not have a photo of the original, just the data entry giving "Connecticut Births and Christenings, 1649-1906,"
So the below statement, regarding being born England is unfounded, unless of course there are 2 John Mann's born Dec 25 1743.

It is unclear where he was born, some suggest England. However it is more likely that he was already in the Americas. He may have been the son John of John Mann and Margaret Peters of Hebron, Connecticut.[2]

This statement is now proven. There is a "New Hampshire Marriage Records, 1637-1947," Record that verifies the place of marriage............They are not just "one of the original Founders", he is noted as "THE" original Founder.

According to "Genealogy of the Mann family",[2] they moved to Orford, New Hampshire in October 1765 and were one of the original founders of the town. This is also supported by the gravestone.[1] (Note this suggests they married elsewhere, presumably Hebron.)

Narrative by Joel Mann

"John 2nd, son of John, born December 25th, 1743, married Lydia Porter, of Hebron, daughter of John Porter, 19 years of age, born March 17th, 1746, and moved with her on horse- back to Orford, New Hampshire, in October, 1765, and were the first permanent settlers of the town. Their children born in Orford were, John, Solomon, Jared, Ira, Aaron, Lydia, Sa- rah, Nathaniel, Penning, Asaph, Cyrus, Phebe, Joel, Abijah, and one son lived but a few hours after his birth."

"Something should be said here of the parents of those fifteen children before proceeding to notice the children and their families. When a large portion of the State of New Hampshire was a wilderness, and lands in the town of Orford were surveyed and offered for sale, John Mann soon after his marriage went there from Hebron, Connecticut, and took possession of a lot on Connecticut River, given to him by his father. A dense forest covered the whole region except a few spots which had been cleared by the Indians, on which they had raised corn. Here, with his resolute and faithful com- panion, he pitched his tent, built a log-house, and began to fell the stately trees of primeval growth, some of the pines be- ing 200 feet in height. The journey of these pioneers was indeed a lonely and fatiguing one, the last sixty miles of it being without a road, the crooked foot-path obstructed by fallen trees, and no bridges across the streams. In some of the towns along the way there were two or three families with whom they staid at night, who received them cordially and refreshed them with their homely fare. They arrived at the place where thev made their future home on the 24th of October, 1765. A family had come there a few months previously, had reared a hut covered with bark, with whom they passed the winter. That family moved away, so that Mr. Mann and wife were the first abiding or permanent settlers of the town. Removed as they were from all places for obtaining the conveniences and comforts of life, they had to rely on their bwn ingenuity and efforts to obtain only a small portion of what was needed. A few chairs and a bedstead, and some- thing for a table, were indispensable articles. An abundance of timber was everywhere around them, but no saw-mill to to convert it into lumber. No. wagon-roads were constructed on which articles for housekeeping could be transported. No canals were cut around the numerous falls in the river for the ascent of water craft. The soil had not been relieved of the deep shade that had lain upon it for ages, and the enlivening rays of the sun let in upon it ; and no harvest had taken the place of the towering forest."[4]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

John Jr, (son of John Mann who married Lydia Porter in 1765), married Lydia Dutton in 1788. If some birth cards says Capt. John Mann and others say John Mann as father perhaps that was to indicate which Lydia was the mother.

I was confused by the Orford Clerk's transcription for the 1788 marriage. John Mann III is listed by the Clerk as John Mann Jr. as though he was the second in the lineage.

John Mann Jr., the second in the lineage, was married to Lydia Helen Tarbox Porter until her death in 1805, so he could not have married Lydia Dutton in 1788.
