Sarah Manners was born in the village of Brancepeth on 2 July 1874 and was the second daughter of John Manners and Sarah Maude.[1]
On the 1881 census, Sarah, aged 6 years, is living at 3 Maple Cottage, Brancepeth, with her parents and siblings: Elizabeth (15 years), Thomas (13 years), John (11 years), Robert (9 years), Edward (4 years), Joseph (3 years) and Maude (11 months). Her grandfather, William Maude, a retired engineer, is also living with them.[2]
On the 1891 census, Sarah, aged 16 years, is living at 55 New Row, Stockley, with her her parents and siblings: John (21 years), Robert (19 years), Edward (14 years), Joseph (12 years) and Maud (10 years).Her grandfather, William Maude, is also still with them.[3]
On the 1901 census, Sarah, aged 26 years, is living at 55 New Row, Stockley, with her widowed mother and her brother, John, aged 31 years, who is now head of the household. Her sister, Maud, aged 20 years, is also living with them along with their grandfather, William Maude.[4]
On the 1911 census, Sarah, aged 36 years, is living at 12 Clarence Terrace, Willington, with her widowed mother and her sister, Maud, aged 30 years, who is a school mistress. Sarah's nieces, Ethel and Maud Strickland, both drapery shop assistants, are living with them.[5]
On the 1921 census, Sarah, aged 46 years, is living at 12 Clarence Terrace, Willington, with her sister, Maud, aged 40 years, who is an elementary school teacher. They also have their niece, Maud Leng, aged 4 years, with them.[6]
On the 1939 Register, Sarah, aged 56 years, is living at 2 Lydia Terrace, Bishop Auckland, with her sister, Maud, aged 50 years, who is an elementary school teacher.[7]
Sarah Manners died, aged 83 years, on 25 February 1958 and her estate was valued at £158 (approx £3,786 in 2021).[8][9]
