He was a successful business man of Lynn and active in town affairs. He owned a Fulling Mill at Strawberry Brook, a Grist Mill on Water Hill and a Mill at Saugus Center, with "Pranker privilege." He was one of the owners of the Old Iron Works.
Daniel also had a slave called "King Pompey to whom he gave his Freedom to in 1757. He gave Pompey two acres of fine land close to Vinegar Hill on the Saugus River. There Pompey lived in a stone house which was still standing in 1907. Once a year slaves from the surrounding area were given a Holiday to visit King Pompey."
In 1759, he had a "Chestnut colour'd Mare" that was stolen.
Daniel married 1st. Joanna Burrage, intent July 8, 1710 in Lynn, Essex Co., Mass., daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Breed) Burrage, and 2nd. Elizabeth Sweetser, Jan. 6, 1736/37 in Malden, Middlesex Co., Mass., daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Sprague) Sweetser, born in Malden, Middlesex Co., Mass. March 15, 1697/9
