Benjamin Athenatius Marceau was born on 2 May 1860 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, son of Joseph Marceau (1806–1883) and Mary Catherine (Barrett) Marceau (1825–1909). ^[1]

Mr. Benjamin Marceau, born at Dapto 62 years ago, and where he spent practically the whole of his life, died at a private hospital in Sydney on Tuesday. Deceased, who was much esteemed by a large circle of friends, conducted the Dapto hotel for many years. About three years ago the late Mr. Marceau went to Sydney, where he has resided ever since. The body was brought to Dapto on Thursday, and the interment took place in Brownsville cemetery, where deceased's wife is interred. A grown-up family survive to mourn their loss.

Friends and relatives meet train leaving Sydney at 8.25 a.m.

He is buried at Saint Lukes Anglican Church Cemetery^[9]
