Biography

Rosalia Marinello was born circa 1854 in Corleone, Italia, the daughter of Antonino Bernardo Marinello and Rosalia di Mattia.

Marriage

Rosalia Marinello married twice:
1. Vincenzo Gennaro, son of Luciano Gennaro and Maria Provenzano, on 16 April 1885 in Corleone.[1] Rosalia lost her husband Vincenzo Gennaro before 1927.
2. Rosalia became the third wife of widower Michele Centanni, whom she married on November 19, 1927. There were no known children from this union.

Children

Vincenzo and Rosalia had a son, Luciano (1886) and a daughter Mary (1890).
Luciano was born and baptized 3 July 1886 in Corleone, Italy. His godparents were Andrea Ciravolo and Mattea Sabella, a married couple.[2]

The manifest of the SS Letimbro which sailed from Palermo and arrived in the Port of New York in 1886, “burthen” in New Orleans, lists the family together:

  1. Vincenzo Gennaro, 35 (b. 1851), from Corleone
  2. Rosolia Marinello, 32 (b. 1854)
  3. Luciano Gennaro, four months (b. 3 Jul 1886)

Based on Luciano’s age, it is September or October 1886.[3] This record confirms Luciano's disembarking in New Orleans.[4]

In the 1900 federal census of Saint James Parish, Louisiana, Rosalie Genard, born August 1850, age 49, heads a household with her children:

  1. Louie, 14, born July 1885,
  2. Mary, born January 1890, age 10.

Rosalie is listed as single, not as a widow or married. She and Louis were born in Italy and emigrated circa 1886; Mary was born in Louisiana. Rosalie is a naturalized citizen.[5] From 1900 on, Vincenzo's family appear in US census records, but Vincenzo does not.

Luciano was later known as Louis Genard. He was a bootlegger, a drug trafficker, and a well-known mobster based in New Orleans in the 1920-50s. Louis married Nora Amato the daughter of Domenico Amato and his wife Maria Terrantino. He died at age 75 (b. 1885) on 16 September 1960 in Orleans Parish, LA.[6]

Notes

Rosalia Marinello is listed on the 1930 United States Census for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana as the 70 year old wife of M. Centanni. Her name is spelled "Rosalee Centanni". Her husband is listed as 57 years old in 1930 which may not be correct if she is the correct Rosalia Centanni.

Death

Rosalia Marinello passed away 07 Mar 1933. Her second husband, Michele Centanni died a widower in 1934.

Marinello-21 and Marinello-13 appear to represent the same person because: Her marriage to Vincenzo Gennaro appears in both profiles.
