Biography

Thomas Markley was born to John David and Henrietta Markley on May 15, 1867 in Stoney Creek, Virginia. ^[1] Their name has been spelled variously as both Markley and Merkley.

In 1870 Thomas was living with his parents in Madison, Shenandoah County, Virginia ^[2]

Thomas, his parents, and 5 siblings were still in Madison, Virginia in 1880. He was the oldest of their children at 13. ^[3]

Thomas married Jemimah (Jennie) Rumer on February 5, 1895 in Kayser, West Virginia. It was his second marriage, his first being to Mary Day in 1888. They had three children by 1900 and were living back in Madison, Virginia where he grew up.^[4]

Their children were:

2. Dewey b. 1898
3. Bessie b. 1901

Thomas died on March 10, 1901 in Aurora, West Virginia. He was 33 years old. He is buried in the Maple Spring Cemetery in Eglon, Preston County, West Virginia. ^[5]
