Biography
Janet was born on 29th June 1835 and baptized on 6th July 1835 in Parish of Lanark. She is the daughter of James Marshal and Anna Ballantine. [1&2]
In 1841Cencus Janet, 5yrs, was living in the village of Wiston in Lanarkshire with her parents James, a carter, her mother Ann and siblings Walter and Sarah. Her grandparents Walter (63yrs), an Agricultural labourer and Sarah (65yrs) Marshall also lived in the village along with her cousins Sarah (30yrs) and Zepherina (20yrs). [3]
In 1851 Janet is living along the road in Symington and working as a domestic servant in a house with a widowed Blacksmith and his son and daughter.[4]
