Agnes Marshall was born about 1806, perhaps in Berwickshire, details not found. There was more than one Agnes Marshall: one was a daughter of Thomas Marshall and Agnes McCloud and was born an Duns, Berwickshire; another was a daughter of William Marshall & Isabel Houliston and was born at Whitsome, Berwickshire. Which Agnes is relevant?
About 1830 - exact date again not found - she married Archibald Cl.... . Spelling varied wildly in the early 19th century! Archibald was baptized as "Clezie"; the couple were shown in the 1841 census at Scone as "Clazy"; the 1851 census at Bridgend appears to say "Cleazy" - the handwriting is difficult to read.
The couple operated "Clark's Toastie", providing food service at the Strathmore Inn at Bridgend, Perth. Some of their children seem to have originally been shown as "Clazy" but they all eventually adopted the "Clezy" spelling.
Archibald died in 1854. Agnes died in 1873 at Market Hotel, Mill Street, Perth. [1]
