ERROR; 1679 TRANSPORTED: He was bound for MD on the Sarah & Elizabeth on 24 Nov 1679, his agent was Samuel Alford (BRCO). There were 2 Michael Martins born about the same time in England, both were transported to Maryland. The Michael of 1679 is not my ancestor


Michael Martin, my 7th great grandfather Christening 30 Sep 1667, St. John the Baptist Church, Margate Parish, Isle of Thanet, co. Kent, England. Note: St. John the Baptist is an Anglican church.

1680 transported to Maryland on the ship St. George of London; 6 Aug 1680 Indentured to Col. William Digges, Agent John Bawdon, merchant of London. MD Archives Liber WC 2, folio 217

Michael's indenture was sold 2 more times. Mr. Digges assigned the indentures to John Lewelli 6 Aug n who was Lord Baltimore’s Land Agent and a member of his land commission (Sidelights on Maryland History) Per Kathy Martin Brown.

FIRST LAND ?: 1693: Thomas Austin and his wife Susanna [widow of John Posey] conveyed 250 a. Habnabata Venture to Michael Martin on 2 Jan 1693 (CHLR S:205) Susanna, the widow of John POSEY, and later of Thomas AUSTIN died before 13 Oct. 1716 when as Susanna ASHTON, administration was granted on her estate to [her son] Humphrey POSEY. (NOTE: Michael died still in possession of this land.)

On 13 March 1710 Charles Co., Court Michael Martin served on the jury (CHLR D# 2:61)

In the Name of God Amen. I Michael Martin of Charles County in the province of Maryland planter being sick and weak of body but of sound and perfect memory thanks be to God, do make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament in Mannor and form following-

Imp- I give and devise unto my Grandson Michael Martin all that tract or parcell of land called HABNABALA [?] VENTURE Containing two hundred and fifty acres to him and his heirs forever, after the death of my beloved wife, also one feather bed and one cow and calf paid him by my Executor when he shall arrive at the age of twenty-one.

Item- I give and devise unto my two grandsons John and Henry Martin Two Tracts of Land the one called JOHNSONS ADDITION containing two hundred acres, the other called NONESUCH Containing seventy three acres both which tracts of land to be equally divided between them, which said devise to be to them and their heirs forever. Also to each of them one feather bed and one cow and calf.

Item- I give and bequeath unto my granddaughters Sarah and Elizabeth Martin each of them one feather bed and cow and calf to be paid them by my Executor when they shall arrive to the years of Sixteen of Day of Marriage.

Item- I give and bequeath unto my son John Martin all the rest of my Estate real and personal to him and his heirs forever, Excepting my wifes thirds.

Lastly, I constitute ordain and appoint my Son John Martin to be whole and sole Executor of this my will and Testament and do hereby acknowledge this to be my last will and Testament revoking and making void all former will or wills and testament or testaments by me heretofore made.

In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-sixth day of August Anno Dom 1721.

This will was proved before me in common form by all the Subscribing Witnesses 5th Sept 1721

Henry Hawkins Fran[cis] Ware and David Goodwillie (the Subscribing Witnesses to the within will) made oath that they saw Michael Martin the testator sign and seal the same and heard him publish and declare it to be his Testament and last will, and at the time of his so doing he was of sound and perfect memory to the best of their judgement.
