Della Martin Bantz wouldn't have had a memory of her parents in that she was born on February 12, 1876. Her sister, Marietta, died the next day (February 13) as did her mother on February 16.
In that all of Robert and Susan Mary (Mobley) Martin's five children were born in Decatur County, Indiana, we know three of them survived to 1880 for in that federal census, Mordecai and Sarah Mobley's household included three of their grandchildren, Alfred Martin (age 8), Francis Martin (age 7), and Della (Orpha) Martin (age 4).
The latter was hard to research because the 1880 census lists "Orpha." Francis Martin's obituary names his sister as "Della," having died in 1934 at Madison, Indiana.
She married Walter S. Bantz in 1899. The 1900 census indicates she was properly named Della O. Bantz and thus, upholds why she was listed as Orpha in the 1880 census. By 1920, she was divorced without an indication of having children. At her death, of a cerebral hemorrhage, she was a personal secretary that lived and worked on the grounds of Madison State Hospital for the Insane at Madison, Indiana.
She is buried at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana, near the southeast corner of Section 4, and very near the east boundary roadway.
