José married Ana de Sousa on the 1st of September 1766 in Machico.^[1][2] Their children were baptized in the church Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of Conception).

Translation:

On the first of September of seventeen hundred and sixty-six, I Manoel José da Costa Silva, Vicar of this Collegiate [Church] of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of Conception) in the villa of Machico, being the first running of the banns, and in the form of the [Sacred] Council [of Trent] and the Constitution of the Bishop, with no impediments, assist in the marriage, legitimized before the congregation, of the betrothed José Martins, son of Francisco Martins and his wife Domingas do Rosario, both residents of the band of M?; and Ana de Sousa, daughter of Andre Nunes and his wife Marianna de Sousa, living in Paraiso, and natives of this parish, after conferring the matrimonial blessings. The witnesses among those present were António Lomelino de Vasconcellos and Lieutenant Luis Henriques de Azevedo, who signed this term with me. What is written is true (Latin).^[1]
