Biography

Ray was born in Jul 1921 to Max and Sarah Martzak. Her parents were Polish, they were the first generation who emigrated to the USA.

Ray joined the Women's Army Corps during World War II. Date of enlistment 1943. Ray served as a Supply Clerk and Platoon Sergeant in Kentucky. She was discharged in 1945 holding the rank of a Staff Sergeant.

Ray returned to New York where she got married with the man who was in the Air Force by the surname Fishbein.

She was recalled to the Army Reserves in May of 1950, and was given the rank of Second Lieutenant. She was discharged however in February of 1951 due to medical reasons (the birth of her 1st daughter). The couple had three children, all daughters.

SSG Ray (Martzak) Fishbein died in February of 2018 in Tamarac, Florida but was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
