Thomas was born about 1761 in Sussex County, Delaware[1]. He was the eldest of seven sons of Philip P. Marvel and Comfort (Rodney)Marvel. Thomas married Priscilla (Prissa) Harris on October 18, 1784. They had six children before Prissa died in 1795: Lemuel, Abraham Harris, Edward, Rhoda Pensa, Stephen Mitchell, and Benton Harris Marvel. He married second, Leah Jones on January 11, 1796, and they were the parents of five children: Jacob, Prissa, Aaron, Nancy, and Eliza Marvel. Leah died in 1808, and Thomas was married a third time to Andasiah McCalley Truitt on August 28, 1808. They had no children.[2] Thomas lived in Broadkill Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware for much of his life. In his later years, he apparently ran a tavern for he was listed in 1823 and following years among those recommended to the Governor by the Court of General Quarter Sessions of the Peace for licenses "...to keep houses of public entertainment in the County of Sussex." [3]
Thomas passed away about 1836. The abstract of his will (Thomas Marvil of Broadkill Hundred) was recorded in November 1829, and mentions his son Aaron, daughter Eliza, and wife, Andasiah, as well as a "granddaughter," Betsy B. Carroll. The will was probated on November 15, 1836. [4]
