Note N206In 1910 census, Ida worked as an attendant in the North Texas Hospital for the Insane.
She served as a nurse in France during World War 1. We were told that Ben Bates met her there and continued his courtship until Ida agreed to marry him.
Obituary in Abilene newspaper, date cut off.

Ida Cynthia Massey Bates, 94, of Route 1 Box 265-E, died at 12:45 p.m. at Shady Oaks Nursing Home number 2 after a long illness. Services are pending at Mabene-Allen Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Born April 8, 1889, in Blanco County, she attended Baylor Nursing School and served as a nurse in World War I. She married B. L. Bates Sept. 20, 1920, in Phoenix, Ariz. She moved to Abilene in 1930 and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Her husband died in 1945.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. H. D. Wright of Houston, Mrs. Lester (Bennetta) Shulz of 801 Amherst and Mrs. H. S. (Mozele) Gray of Abilene; three sons, B. L. "Buddy" of Houston, Raymond of Brownwood and Wayne of Baytown; three brothers James Massey of Tyler, Barto Massey of Louisville, and Delbert Massey of Dallas; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
