Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Albert Mathews is a part of US Black heritage.
Albert Mathews was a South Carolinian.

Albert was born about 1835.

He was enslaved by John Raven Mathewes Sr. (1788 - 1867).

Although John Raven Mathews died in 1867, his estate inventory listed and named 176 former slaves who had been freed in 1865. Many of those listed are displayed in famiy groupings. And this inventory does not include all of the enslaved persons who were owned by Mathews before emancipation. [1]

Albert is grouped with Sarah (30, probable wife) and Ansel (10, probable son).
