Jean Baptiste Mathieu was born 10 Apr 1707 at Contrecoeur, and baptised the same day at Sainte-Trinité de Contrecoeur, in Canada, Nouvelle-France. He was the son of Jean Mathieu and Marie Madeleine Leclerc. ^{[1] [2]}

Jean Baptiste Mathieu est né et a été baptisé le 10 avril 1707 à Contrecoeur; il est le fils de defunct Jean Mathieu et de Marie Magdelaine Le Clerc; parrain: Messire Jean Baptiste de Chuilliay, lieutenant d'une compagnie du détachement J et marraine, Marie Pecaudy, femme de Delauney

At age 23, on 16 Oct 1730, he married Marie Hébert dite Lecompte, then 28, at L'Ange-Gardien on the Beaupré coast. ^{[1] [3] [4] [5]}

Sadly, their last child was lost in connection with childbirth on 30 Oct 1744 - and then Marie herself died just over a week later, on 9 Nov 1744, at Deschambault. She was only 42 years old, and survived by Jean Baptiste and their six young children.^{[3] [4]}

Fortunately for all of them, Jean Baptiste, still just 37 years old, remarried several months later to Marie Françoise Marcot / Marcotte on 11 Jan 1745, and they raised both the first family and a second together. Jean Baptise lived to be almost 60, dying on 17 Feb 1767 at Deschamault, in what had recently become the Province of Quebec. ^{[1] [3] [6] [7]}
