Harry was born on 25 Nov 1895 in Dixonville, Oregon. He was the son of Lemuel Matthews and Alice Shoemaker. His father was the census enumerator in 1900 and listed Harry was born in 1895, age 4. In 1914 Harry served in World War I in the Navy. He played the clarinet very well and was first chair in the Navy band. Harry was not posted overseas to England in the war. Harry was married first to Helen D. Emery on 21 Jul 1919. Harry & Helen had two daughters. Harry & Helen separated and divorced. Harry married Margaret Laura Hurst on 11 Oct 1930. Harry & Margaret had three children. On 24 Sep 1932 Harry & Margaret were baptized into the Roseburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. From 1980-1990's Harry & Margaret lived in Milton-Freewater, OR. In 1992 Harry & Margaret were living in Payette, Idaho where he passed away on 9 Aug 1993.
