Biography

Lucy (Maupin) Alexander is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Lucy was born in 1821, the daughter of James M. Maupin and Elizabeth (Kenny) Maupin.

On 12 Nov 1840 she married Ripley Alexander in Cole County, Missouri.^[1] Their children:

1. Sarah Alexander b.1841 d. 1915
2. Nero C. Alexander (1842~1910)
3. Catherine (Alexander) Bruce (abt.1844~1909)
4. John Maupin Alexander (1847~1916)
5. James Alexander, b. ~1848 - the only source on him, so far, is the 1850 Census where he is age 2.
6. Boyd Alexander, b. 1851 d. 1866.

By 1850, that part of Cole County was now Moniteau County, Missouri, and the census that year shows her there with her husband, and five of their children.^[2]

Research Notes

The Shaffett book cited below also gives one more child for this marriage: Alfred B. Maupin, b. Jan 1839. (Before their marriage.) However Alfred does not show up in the 1850 Census in this family. And Family Search does not list him as a child of this marriage, but rather as a child of Ripley's brother Nero^[3] - (not the Nero from this marriage.) None of the sources viewed so far have a direct tie to any parentage for Alfred. If a census taken during his youth is found, or a death certificate, that would help!
