Audley Maxwell of Tazewell county, Virginia, married Anne Mathews and had a large family.[1]

Cpt Maxwell may have been born in 1760 in Old Botetourt CO, VA and died early in 1835 in Tazewell Co, VA

Son of John Maxwell, Sr. and Margaret Mary Carson.

Audley Campbell Maxwell married Anne Matthews (1764-1820) in Rockbridge Co, VA, on 30 Dec 1780. They had eight children: Audley Campbell Edley (1783-1837); Elizabeth Lee (1786-1857); John (1788-1850); Thomas (1796-1850); Joseph P. (1800-1869); Jane (1803-1825); Sarah Jane (1806-1834); William M. (1811-1892).

Audley Maxwell was a veteran of the Revolutionary War having served as an Ensign in the Rockbridge Co, VA, militia from 8 Mar 1780.

Audley Maxwell served with his cousin James Maxwell on the first Grand Jury empanelled by the court of Tazewell Co, VA, in the November term, 1807.

Audley Maxwell received a grant (Grant No.40, page 240) on the North Branch of the Maiden Spring of the Clinch River in Wythe Co, VA, on 20 Jun 1798. He received another grant (Grant No. 61, page 181) of 282 acres on the waters of the Clinch River in Tazewell Co, VA, on 17 Sep 1810.
