Colonel Hon. Henry Edward Maxwell was born on 27 November 1857. He was the son of Hon. Richard Thomas Maxwell and Charlotte Anne Elrington. He married Edith Augusta Emily Cosby, daughter of Colonel Robert Ashworth Godolphin Cosby and Alice Sophia Elizabeth Pocock, on 10 August 1887. He died on 2 March 1919 at age 61. On 14 May 1897 he was granted the rank of a baron's younger son. He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was wounded at Paardeburg. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Cavan. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Cavan. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900. He gained the rank of Colonel in the Black Watch. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Cavan in 1910. He lived at Arley, Mountnugent, County Cavan, IrelandG.
