Biography

Hugh McAnally was born in 1848 in Newry County Downs,Ireland. Died 20 July 1898 at Lyttelton,New Zealand at age 56 years. Resident of New Zealand for 37 years.This would mean that Hugh emigrated to New Zealand at the young age of 19 years old around the year 1861.He was a Hotelkeeper by profession. Death certificate issued in July 2011 would suggest that Hugh married at age 24 ,years some five years after arriving in New Zealand.The marriage to Margaret Adelaide Kennedy took place in Wellington. Buried 23 July 1898 in Linwood Cemetery ,Christchurch. At the time of his death his four daughters were aged 30,29,21 and 18.and his three sons were aged 27, 25,and 24. His parents were father- James McAnally, and mother - Margaret McAnally nee Kennedy.

Left Woolwich on the "Nugget: on 2/5/1860 arrived Auckland 20/6/1860

Discharged Otahuhu on 14/9/1865.

169 soldiers of 65th Regiment, 40 Royal Engineers, 16 women and 20 children arrived in Auckland aboard the 'Nugget', 21 June 1860.
