Biography

Ann McCallum was born about 1840 in the parish of Campbeltown, county of Argyll, Scotland. She was the daughter of William McCallum and Nancy (Ann) Lindsay.

In 1851 and 1861 census indicates that Ann was living with her family in the parish of Kilmory in the county of Bute. She was working as a general servant.

Reference Notes

• The 1851 Scottish Census indicates that both Ann and Elizabeth are 16. Jane and Jean have the word "twin" next to each of them and they are both age 2. The 1861 Census has Elizabeth at 23 years, Ann as 21 and Jane and Jean are both 12. I suspect in 1851, when Elizabeth would have been 12-13 and Ann at 10-11, there age was reported incorrectly because they were working as general labor instead of going to school.
• The year born is an estimate from the 1861 census. The place of birth was also from the census.
