Birth Thomas Patrick McCarthy was born on 23 September 1921 at Heathcote, Victoria, Australia. He was the son of Patrick McCarthy and Millicent Mary (Chambers) McCarthy. [1][2][3]

Occupation Line Inspector Post Master Generals Department.

Paddy's and Millie's youngest son, Tom, worked at a bakery and at the local Post Office before joining the Navy during World War II. After Peace was declared, Tom went to work in the Engineering Division of the Postmaster General's Department. He progressed through the ranks and worked as Lines Instructor for a number of years, at Shepparton, Ballarat and Bendigo, eventually being appointed Lines Inspector for the Seymour district. He retired on 30 March, 1977. A busy and skillful, though quiet, person, Tom built his own home at Brightwell's Hill, Heathcote. He has pursued a wide variety of interests over the years, including all things mechanical and electrical. He learned to fly a plane, and at different times has participated in such sports as archery, yachting and golf. In his retirement he continues his interest in electronics and travels extensively throughout inland Australia.[4]

Death Tom died on 4 August 2009 at Bendigo Hospital, Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. [5]

McCARTHY. - Thomas Patrick (Tom) Passed away at Bendigo Hospital on Aug. 4, 2009 Aged 87 years Youngest son of the late Paddy and Millie McCarthy. Loved brother of Rita (Bohan) (dec.), Jack (dec.), Mollie (Dullard) (dec.), Claire (Moore) (dec.), Nellie (dec.), Monica (Ellis) and Sheila (McMahon) (dec.). Rest in Peace. [6]

McCARTHY. - Mass of Thanksgiving for the life of the late Mr Thomas Patrick McCarthy will be offered at St Mary's Catholic Church, Heathcote on WEDNESDAY (Aug. 12) at 11.00 a.m. The Funeral cortege will leave at the conclusion of Mass for the Heathcote Monumental Cemetery. Vigil Prayers and Rosary will be held at the above Church TUESDAY EVENING (Aug. 11) at 7.00 p.m. [7]
