Notes

Note NI101From Scogland Book -
Andrew McCaslin was born in 1758 in Ireland and died July 8, 1830. He married in 1778 at Peters Creek, Pennsylvania, Christiana Brown who was born in 1758. She died November 13, 1830. On her tombstone her name is written "Christianah." Christiana was the daughter of William Brown, who was born about 1725 in Ireland, and his wife, Christiana Thompson who dies about 1805. The Browns came to Philadelphia from Ireland in 1.772, the same year as the McCaslins. It is thought that the families arrived on the same ship. Andrew and his wife Christiana Brown McCaslin are buried in the Middlesex Presbyterian Cemetery. They made their home in Butler County, Pennsylvania near Glade Mills.
also:
Andrew and his wife Christiana were not found in the 1830
Census of Pennsylvania perhaps because Andrew died before the
census was taken that year and Christiana was living with one
of her children and was listed in that family. She could
have been the female age 70 to 80 that was in the household
of William McCaslin of Butler County, Middlesex Township,
page 22 [of the 1820 census].
Andrew McCaslin was a Private in the Cumberland County
Pennsylvania Militia. "Soldiers of the Revolution who
received pay for their services," is taken from a manuscript
having neither date nor title but under "Rangers of the
Frontiers, 1778-1783."
[MMcCaslin022101.FTW]
IGI film 177922 page 113 ref 4312 has the birth ABT 1758 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
IGI 1985229 lists birth abt. 1758 in Scotland.
According to "Geneology of theMcCasland/McCaslin/McCausland/McCouslin/ McCashland Families" by Theta Kennedy Scogland, published by Gateway Press, Baltimore, in 1984. Theta states when referring to William Brown's daughter, Christiana (Christianah on her tombstone) that , "Christiana was the daughter of William Brown, who was born about 1725 in Ireland, and his wife, Christiana Thompson who dies (sp.?) about 1805. The Browns came to Philadelphia from Ireland in 1772, the same year as the McCaslins (also confirmed by the "William Brown Family Genealogical Record" by W.H. Taylor" as noted in the preface comments)." It is thought that the McCaslins came over on the same ship. Andrew and Christiana moved north near the village of Glade Mills in Butler County just north of Pittsburgh. The area is now suburban, but still rural in its atmosphere. Andrew and his wife, Christiana Brown McCaslin are buried in the Middlesex Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetary. The graveyard has headstones that are badly weathered and erroded. George Bond located the headstones for Andrew and Christiana. Her name is listed as "Christianah" on her headstone.
From Scogland Book -
"Andrew McCaslin was born in 1758 in Ireland and died July 8, 1830. Andrew and his wife Christiana Brown McCaslin are buried in the Middlesex Presbyterian Cemetery. They made their home in Butler County, Pennsylvania near Glade Mills."
NSDAR 130,964; 150,495, 150,880; About the time that Andrew married Christiana Brown in 1778 he must have joined the militia, because he is listed as a private in the D.A.R. Patriot Index of veterans of the Revolutionary War. He is also listed as a "soldier of the Revolution who received pay for his services" as a member of the Cumberland County Militia in an undated manuscript entitled "Rangers of the Frontier, 1778-1783".
As per Theta Kennedy Scogland, in excerpts from "Geneology of the McCasland/McCaslin/McCausland/McCouslin/McCashland Families", published by Gateway Press, Baltimore in 1984,
" The 1790 Census of Pennsylvania, Allegheny County, Pitt Township, page 13 lists:
MCCASHLAND, ANDREW
1 free male 16 years and upward
4 free white males under 16 years of age
2 free white females
The 1800 Pennsylvania Census, Butler County, Middlesex Township, page 330 lists:
MCCAUSLAND, ANDREW
2 free white males under 10 years of age
2 free white males 10 to 16 years of age
1 free white male 45 and over
1 free white female under 10 years
1 free white female 10 to 16 years
1 free white female 26 to 45 years
Then in the 1810 Pennsylvania Census, Butler County, Middlesex Township, page 124 is recorded:
MCCASLIN, A.
1 free white male under 10 years
1 free white male 10 to 16 years
1 free white male 16 to 26 years
1 free white maile 45 and over
1 free white female 10 to 16 years
1 free white female 16 to 26 years
1 free white female 26 to 45 years
1 free white female 45 and over"
