Jeran McClain appears on the 1850 census as a 4-year old son of Aaron and Mary McClain. This is the only historical record I can find of Jeran McClain. The spelling of names in census records is notoriously poor.

Other sites and genealogies show his date of death as 31 Dec 1862 in Murfreesboro, TN. This coincides with the Battle of Stone's River. Iven McClain is listed as KIA at Stone's River as a Pvt in Co. E of the 21st MI infantry from Grand Rapids, MI.

I have no records that connect Iven McClain to Aaron and Mary and I have no records that connect Jeran with the 31 Dec 1862 date of death.

Most genealogies consider this to be the same person. Can anyone make these connections with sources?
