Biography

When Joshua McCleary was born on June 18, 1852, in Wentworth, Ontario, his father, Jacob, was 22 and his mother, Ann, was 22. He married Jane Atkinson on March 5, 1873, in his hometown. They had three children during their marriage. He died on November 29, 1937, in Wentworth, Ontario, at the age of 85.

He and his wife lost their two younger children, only son Arthur aged 8 and Ada, 4 , two weeks apart in January and February 1886 to diphtheria leaving only their oldest daughter Effie surviving to adulthood.

All three children used the spelling of McClary on their official documents but since no son survived, the spelling was not carried on to another generation.
