Biography

Samuel was born about 1793. He is the son of Moses McClure and Sally McCorkle. Samuel married in Champaign Co. , Ohio on 14 Aug 1817 to Margaret Watt. After her death he married in Allen County, Ohio 30 Sept 1845 Elizabeth Patterson. [1]

Samuel came to Lima, Ohio from Kentucky in 1825. He brought 17 boys in a covered wagon. He had several other sons born in Lima. One was Moses and he was the first white boy born in Allen County, OH. Samuel and Margaret Watt had at least 11 children. They were: Nathaniel, Sara Ann, Mary Jane, Thomas Watt, Moses II, Elizabeth, Nancy, Samuel, Margaret, Cynthia, and Robert.

After his wife passed away, Samuel married again to Elizabeth Patterson. They had 11 children as well. They were: John, Catherine, James Alexander, Isabell, Ester, Eliza, Joseph, Newton, Alexander, Benjamin, and William.

According to my mom's notes, in the Lima Museum, they have the bed (trundle) that Moses was born in and died in.

My notes say something about a Thomas Watt McClure who was Samuel and Margaret McClure's son. Apparently Thomas was an 1883 Vet. His rank was Staff Sargent of Co. F 4th Ohio Calvary. I will need to do more digging.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
