William McColl was born in 1870 in Ardsheal, Station Cottage House, Duror, Appin, Argyll, Scotland, United Kingdom, son of Robert McColl (1845–aft. 1870) and Jessie Morrison (abt. 1840–abt. 1900).

William died about 1910, aged 39.
