Biography

James was born about 1750. He was the son of David McCreight and Mary Harper.

He arrived in Charleston, South Carolina in 1772 and received a 100 acre land grant in 1773.

He is shown on the 1790 and 1800 census in Fairfield County, South Carolina.

He received additional land grants in Fairfield County, SC.

In 1792, he sold the 100 acre land grant he received in 1773.

His wife's name is shown on deeds in Fairfield County as Margaret McCreight.

In 1797, he , along with his nephews, sold the property they inherited jointly from his father, David McCreight.

He passed away in 1809 and was buried in the McCreight family cemetery in Fairfield County, SC. [1]
