When I was a child I recall a great aunt or uncle telling me that an "Uncle Drake" used to visit the family in Illinois. They said he traveled from his home in Tennessee and that he had a pegleg from the Civil War recieved in battle while serving the Confederacy. After a long search I found H.D. McCrory aka Henry Drake McCrory and now today with the discovery of his pension papers application, (last source listed), the recounting of his story is now available. I don't understand why they called him Uncle Drake as he is my first cousin 3x removed, but people's memories aren't always spot on.
