Jackson was Choctaw.

Jackson was born 12 Feb 1895 at Wister, Sugar Loaf County, Moshulatubbee District, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, the son of Daniel McCurtain and Susan Newell. Jackson passed away 17 Dec 1973 at Howe, Le Flore, Oklahoma. He is buried at the Howe Cemetery, Howe, Le Flore County, Oklahoma.[2]

On 7 December 1903, Joseph Jackson was appointed Guardian of Jack McCurtain.[3][4]
