"Mr. McDonald was born Aug. 2, 1895 in Harlan (OR), the son of Alonzo and Cora (Grant) McDonald. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Harlan. After completing his schooling, he served with the United States Army during World War I. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to Harlan, where he was employed in farming and logging. In 1943, he moved to Prineville then to Redmond in 1962, the same year of his retirement. On December 6, 1919, he was united in marriage to Jessie Ann Brown in Toledo. She preceded him in death in 1966. Mr. McDonald was one of the founding charter members of the Crook County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 141 as well as a member of the Redmond VFW Post. He greatly enjoyed the hobby of knife making." He was raised in his maternal grandparents home with his younger uncles & aunts.
