Biography

In 1866 Stewart and Catherine with their children along with his parents Robert and Margaret moved from Bloom, Cook County, Illinois to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon in a wagon train ^[1]

Catherine was born on the 14 Jun 1824 at Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland. Catherine was the daughter of John McEldowney (b. 1784; d. 1875) and Martha Caldwell (b. 1786; d. 1861). Some records indicate that the McEldowney family left Ulster, Ireland and came to Canada where they stayed briefly in Easterbrook, Ontario. By 1836 they shipped via the Great Lakes to Detroit. From there the whole family walked to Fort Dearborn (Chicago), where they took up a claim at Thorn Grove, just south of Chicago.^[2]
