Battle of Argonne Forrest
Lasting 47 days, from September 26, 1918 to November 11, 1918, this battle was fought in the Argonne Forest, France.
It was against Germany and France combined with the Americans.
This was the last major battle of WWI.
After Chateau Thierry which stopped the German offensive, this battle pushed them back into their own borders.[3]
Gustav received a purple heart for gallantry in the Argonne Forest fighting[4]
He was wounded in action.
Marriages
Gustav married Katherine Lenox in 1919 in New Jersey.[5] She passed away in 1959.
Second, he married Catherine C Mulvey in January 1960 in Hamilton Township, Mercer, New Jersey.[6] She had not previously been married. She passed away in 1967 in Florida.
Gustav had no children.
Death
He passed away on October 2, 1969, and is buried with a military marker at Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida. [7]
The headstone application was completed by the executor of his estate. [8] His first wife has a husband-and-wife headstone in New Jersey with his year of birth but no death year. [9]
